The extraordinary performance of the main actress, Dimitra Vlagopoulou, and the energetic commitment of the entire team of Animal - above all the one of Monika Lenczewska’s camera - bring rare authenticity to a film that can well be labelled as “variations on the theme of the sad clown”. The insistence on the actual shows of the animateurs, the absence of any positive escape and moreover a rather redundant dramaturgy can be read as a desperate cry in the middle of social depression – quite the recurring theme in current Greek filmmaking.
