What are the challenges of making portraits with a camera?

The question of the portrait is bound to the question of the landscape: the importance of the variety of aspects and the necessity of a panoramic view seem to be compelling.

But this question displays also the problem of the relationship between master and pupil. Is there necessarily a power relation in the filmic mediation of the portrait? Is the camera following or creating authority? Can one really do a portrait of a living person?
