This is not about speaking of neurodivergent people, this is about having them co-create a movie. Therefore with this movie we do not have to expect autism, for example, to be thematised or represented, nor should we expect to have the experience of being in autistic peoples’ shoes. With The Stimming Pool, the viewer witnesses their artistic expressions, their desire and pleasure in representing and storytelling. Cinematic fireworks go hand in hand with moments of retreat, explosive performances with the tireless (and necessary) search for a comfort zone. The fragmented editing retains the ability to convey a mosaic-like composition of feelings and situations, teaching us to use multiple perspectives. It is symptomatic of a project that goes further than the filmic output – see the link in the information below. The film’s architecture itself is structured through different layers: the screening of a film in the film, scenes of the making-of, workshops for preparing a comic strip, then becoming an animation clip... In short: a series of grafting or nestling, at the core of which there is a spectacular final dance scene that turns a swimming pool into a “stimming pool”.
