What does water mean to a forgotten village in the south of Spain? A coming of age film combining live footage, superstitious folklore and fiction, El Agua captures the delicate atmospheric moments in human interactions that go way beyond dialogue. Even if the story sometimes falls into well-trodden narrational clichés, on the whole it shines through with the portrayal of three generations of independent women in a society all too ready to vilify them.
